Eating out
When people think about gluten-free dining, they often think about the individual.
But in reality, it rarely works that way.
As Tom, Head of Operations at Frasers Fish & Chips, puts it:
“An eight-person order will only have one gluten free fish and chips on it.”
And yet – that one choice often determines where the whole group eats.
why it matters
For people living with Coeliac disease, eating out isn’t always straightforward. A lack of trust, unclear preparation processes, or past experiences can mean avoiding certain foods, or eating out altogether.
And when one person can’t eat safely, it often affects everyone else too.
Where it started
For Frasers, this wasn’t just a business decision. Before opening our first shop in Penzance, the team knew someone who couldn’t eat out at all due to coeliac disease and multiple allergies.
That experience shaped everything that followed.
Building it right from day one
Starting from scratch meant doing things properly:
– Equipment designed for gluten-free preparation
– Careful storage and handling
– Training and processes aligned with Coeliac UK standards
The Penzance shop has proudly held accreditation since 2016, with Helston following in 2021.
More than just one customer
Gluten Free Accreditation has helped Frasers become a destination for many customers. But importantly, it doesn’t just bring in individuals – it brings groups.
Families, friends, and mixed dietary needs can all enjoy the same experience together.
"I was on holiday in Cornwall this week and fancied fish and chips, but as a coeliac it’s often a struggle to find somewhere that caters safely for gluten-free. Frasers Fish & Chips came up on Google, and seeing that they are Coeliac UK accredited gave me confidence to give them a try."
